In the bygone days of yester-year, the general thinking on word of mouth went something like this: If a customer has a good experience, she'll tell three friends. If a customer has a bad experience, he'll tell seven friends.

With Yelp, Facebook and Google, word of mouth has gone online and it's gone viral. Both good reviews and bad reviews have a shelf life of years. Just as you know you'll get good reviews, you can be just as certain that you'll get poor ones as well.
