As the proud owner of your very own hair stylist website, one of the first thing you’ll need to figure out is how to get the right people to see it.
I think you’ll agree that having a bunch of plumbers show up on your website isn’t what you’re looking for. There’s nothing wrong with plumbers per se but they’re not going to get the cash register to ring. Unless, of course, there’s a sudden spike in plumber related hair care emergencies in your area.
The process for attracting the right people is called search engine optimization (SEO). The goal is to get people who need what you do to visit your website and see what you have to offer.
Before you decide that this is too complicated to deal with, consider this. If your specialty is hair extensions, it would probably be helpful if your site was seen by people shopping for hair extensions. With search engine optimization you can actually affect that.
Unfortunately, SEO can seem ridiculously complicated. Because of this, it’s easy to be victimized by unscrupulous businesses that would prey on your lack of knowledge and charge you for services you may not need.
In this episode, I begin a two-part conversation with Brian Dean from Backlinko.com. We talk about search engine optimization in general and focus on the things that brand-new website owners need to know and where to get the information from.
If your hair stylist website is up and running or you are planing to put one online shortly, I think you’ll find this conversation very educational. Enjoy.
